Local Wellness Retreat: A Mindful Escape

You don’t always need to travel far to experience a mindful self-care retreat. In the charming town of Sutton, Quebec, we discovered just that. Our weekend escape felt like a home away from home, filled with feminine energy that encapsulated serenity and tranquility. Read on to discover the three key elements that transformed this retreat into a triple-threat experience for the mind, body, and soul.

01 : space

Choosing the right space is key—it sets the tone for your experience. The environment you immerse yourself in initially influences your physical and visual senses, which then transcends into your intrinsic wellness, helping to lower cortisol levels. At the Hinter House cabin, we discovered a secluded haven nestled in nature. The blend of raw, earthy surroundings with a modern interior created a warm, peaceful ambiance that felt luxurious and nurturing.

Hinter House, Sutton Quebec is designed with well-being in mind, embracing a minimalist philosophy that fosters a deep connection with nature. With 60% of the house made of glass, you’re never far from the natural world. This constant connection to nature made it an ideal setting for our rejuvenating self-care retreat.

"architecture and nature must work together. the creation of a place where we feel protected, we can share moments with our loved ones. spaces that become memory makers.”

— Mauricio Padila, founder of Hinter House

02: yoga

One of the highlights of our retreat was a mindful yoga session on the deck with our private yoga instructor Andie from Mudra Metta, where we connected with our inner selves while listening to the soothing sounds of waterfalls and birds. Yoga is a powerful tool for wellness, helping to balance the mind, body, and soul. For a group of women, it brings a sense of unity and shared strength, allowing us to support one another while finding inner peace. This collective experience deepened our connection and left us feeling empowered and refreshed.

Yoga offers profound mental and emotional benefits, fostering deep self-awareness and emotional stability. Through meditative practices and disciplined movements, it calms the nervous system, reducing stress and promoting inner peace. Accessible at any stage in a woman's life, yoga supports personal growth and a sense of balance. Whether you're just beginning or have years of experience, yoga cultivates resilience and emotional well-being, making it a valuable practice for long-term mental health.

03: new cultures through taste

A visit to a vineyard is a delightful wellness moment that wraps up a weekend getaway perfectly. Picture this: sipping on local wines with friends, surrounded by the beauty of vines and landscapes. As you taste each wine, you’re not just enjoying its flavor, but also soaking in the history and charm of the place. It’s a sweet, soothing end to a weekend full of relaxation and connection.

We visited the enchanting Le Château Ste-Agnès Vineyard, a European-esque estate where we indulged in local natural wines and a picnic featuring artisanal cheeses. Learning about the château's rich history, built in true Romanesque style with stained-glass windows from the 17th century, added a touch of romance to our retreat.

"Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show."

— Le Château Ste-Agnès

The weekend getaway was an instant escape, without the need for a flight, yet filled with all the romance and richness life has to offer. It reminded us that life is richer when we live it with our senses—enjoying the view of nature from a tranquil cabin, feeling the breeze during a calming yoga session, and savoring each sip of wine. Experiences like these feed our souls.

With Love & Light,
